On red nose day, so we were allowed to wear pyjamas and red noses which we were able to buy from the office for £1.25. There were a lot of people with red noses and their comfy pyjamas. At the end of the day we sold selling Joes Ice Cream. We raised a lot of money, and we appreciate all the money that has been donated to us both in the office and also all of the money from tuck today. Today’s  Tuck Shop total was nearly £29. Most pupils in Gwyrosydd brought money in and we raised ... . Well done everyone!

RECEPTION INTERVIEWS

With Myles

What have you been doing in class this week?

In class this week we have been learning about castles.

We played in a role play, our role play is cool because it is about an old castle. We got to dress up as a prince and a princess and knights. We played with really fun toy castles. Inside them there were king and queen dolls. We also made cookies for Valentine’s day, we even cooked them ourselves with the help of Claire in the Kitchen. We also made a cards with flowers on. We also opened lots of chests with toys in.

We found out about the recipe of our cookies and lots of interesting facts on castles.

We found that the hardest part was cutting out the icing hearts but it was really fun.

We had great fun putting the icing on the cookies. We also found the role play easy and really fun.

What was the best bit of the week? .....

The best bit was eating our cookies after all our hard work!!!

Y2 - Creative artists and gymnasts

We interviewed  year 2 pupils and they told us about their art and gymnastics lessons.

The year 2 pupils said that, they have created colourful paintings this week, they also told us that they have been painting colourful faces and they have enjoyed. They explained that they have learnt how to paint in the lines and paint colourful paintings. They also said they found it difficult to paint a colour blinding face. However, they found it easy to paint inside the lines with a thick paint brush. They told us they miraculously enjoyed painting with the colours they had in front of them.

They also told us about their gymnastic lessons. The pupils said what they have been doing in gymnastics, they were using the gym equipment to jump off into different shapes whilst landing on the mats in front of them. They told us they were running and jumping into a star jumps and playing stuck in the mud as a warm up lesson. This week they learnt how to land a jump and land on the mat, yet in the same landing position they were told. This week they found difficult to balance and hold the crab position. Although, the pupils found doing the scorpion and star jumps easy. They said the best bit about this weeks lesson was using the gym equipment and the mats and also playing stuck in the mud for this session and they all enjoyed.

Criw Cymraeg

In criw cymraeg we have chosen our ‘Patrwm yr wythnos which is; Dwi’n gallu a dw i ddim yn gallu, which means, ‘I can and I can’t.’ Please practise these sentence patterns at home, in school, in the yard and in class.

We are going to be learning a song in our welsh assemblies. The Criw cymraeg will teach the song. This time we will be teaching the song, ‘Dw i’n gallu’ to fit in with our Patrwm yr wythnos. We have learnt a new Welsh prayer in assembly too and most children know it now.

We have all been given a day to work in tuck shop so that children and teachers have an opportunity to speak welsh. The tuck shop assistants have also had welsh lessons and we hear them using welsh every day.

In our reward assembly every class chooses a person to be their “ser yr wythnos” and their Criw Cymraeg representative will call out their name in assembly.

The pupil will have a certificate and their name will go on the ‘Seren yr wythnos’ board.

We have also been creating a playground game to play in welsh so that children are using more welsh on the playground. It will be similar to the game of Simon says but with the sentence patterns, Dw i’n gallu a dw i ddim yn gallu.

As you can see we have also allocated Criw Cymraeg members to blog our news. We hope to do this every week so that we can keep you updated.

Diolch,

Criw Cymraeg

Welsh and Rugby Learning
In Gwyrosydd, we have had two year ten pupils to come from Bryntawe High school. They taught us certain welsh words including colours and numbers. We all played games such as bulldogs, seaweed and others. We all had to then race to either 'coch', 'melyn' or 'glas' which were all cones in a straight line and when one of the boys, either Ellis or Scott called a colour and we had to run with a rugby ball and try and get there before anyone else possibly could (we were all racing). At the end the boys give us a questionnaire to  to answer as to whether liked doing Welsh, rating the lesson out of ten and which welsh words can you match. Over all everyone enjoyed and it was great fun.

Year 6 is a lot of fun because the children are amazing and they produce work of  FANTASTIC STANDARD and I really enjoy the topics in year 6. I have enjoyed teaching the 'Conflict' topic and we do a lot of things to get ready for comp. I like teaching maths numeracy tasks and sometimes its challenging to use welsh i think that we could add other lessons to our Y6 timetable for example swimming and towards the end of Y6 different languages.

Year 6 hand made Reindeers

By Year 6 Bloggers

This year of December, the year 6's had made Reindeers out of wood.

We carved small round heads and used sticks as legs, we got red paint and added red glitter into it for the red nose, as we was making Rudolph the red nosed Reindeer, We used googly eyes that were all different kind of colours, there were big eyes, medium eyes and small eyes! We used hot glue gun well not the kids but the teachers, we was aloud to pick what head, body, eyes, and legs we wanted, for the tail we used a holly leaf, and for the antlers we used sticks that we took from the woods that is in our school but we looked for sticks that looked like antlers. After we made them they looked very good and we all enjoyed making them!

Art with Miss Renshaw.

By Year 6 bloggers

Every year we make different christmas decorations in December, Year 5's are discovering the journey of Sir Francis Drake, and the Spanish Armada. Year 4's have been cooking up a storm and checking out natural disasters. Year 3's have created their own wall paper using the style of William Morris, and Year 6's have been working on world war II.
We all enjoy lessons with Miss Renshaw.

Shakespear Club

 by Y6 bloggers

Every year we do a different Shakespeare show. -Mia- In Shakespeare, we do warm up first, which we do if Miss Julie says Strawberry you pretend to be posh, when Miss Julie claps her hands she wants the kids to act like they are in a creepy dark forest and you don't know whats happening. In Shakespeare we act in the Taliesin, we do acts like: Romeo and Juliet, Tempest, Macbeth, Twelth night, Julias Ceasar, and Hamlet. I do enjoy it in a way its fun, but sometimes it gets a bit boring because we are just going through a part for ages and it just gets boring. Miss Julie is really professional with Shakespeare and it seems like she is doing a television show and she is really confident about what she is doing. She would give out parts and decide who is best for the part of an act.

Year 3 Cardiff Castle.

By year 6 bloggers.

This year the year 3's went to Cardiff Castle as a trip with their class!...

Pupils - Jack and Sophia - We went into the castle and we had a tour guide, and he took us around the rooms and the whole castle, that was: Kids rooms, ladies rooms, Mens rooms, and library, and we went into the workshop to buy stuff, but whoever didn't bring money went to the museum. We had lunch inside the castle.

Jack: My Favourite part was when we was making stuff in the workshop and my least favourite part was when I didn't have enough money to buy a couple of stuff when we went to the workshop.

Sophia: My favourite part was when we went to the museum that had lots of old looking stuff in it and my least favourite part was when the floor got really wet. There was a big statue of a dragon outside of Cardiff castle, and we saw cannon balls and we saw lots of tents that we couldn't go in, and we had lots of fun at Cardiff castle, it was probably in my top 3 favourite trips. We just had pack lunches there, and it was a very big room we ate in. The thing that surprised us was that there was so many rooms in there, and there was lots of stain glass windows in the rooms, Something that creeped us out was in the museum there was a creepy doll! We definitely had lots of fun.

The British army came to the school

By year 6 bloggers

Today in our school assembly we had a British soldier come into school and tell us all about what he does, where he has been, and all of the fun things that they do in the army, like skiing, playing rugby, and many other things. The soldier was very regimented and although soldiers are normally very serious, but he can be less serious, and just like a normal person he can be a fun person to be around. And my favourite part of when he came in was when he selected children to come up to the front of the hall and try different clothes from the different services in the army, for example i had put on a royal guard outfit with a bear skin hat. It was a very fun assembly and i think the whole school enjoyed it.

Coding Competition.

By Year 6 Blogger: Georgia

Pupils - Leonie and Curtis - In the competition we make games with codes and this year we came 3rd out of lots of schools. The game we made was about plastic in the ocean. In the game, the shark had to eat all the fish without eating the plastic. A scuba diver has to collect the plastic without getting eaten by the shark, it was a good game, but also a 2 player game, making this game was really fun. We won lots of prizes these included: £1000 that we won and we got Raspberry Pi's, and a trophy and goody bags that had lots of cool things inside them.

Interview with Miss Julie - The School Library

Year 6 bloggers

Our School has total of 9352 books in the library, and they are split into fiction and non fiction and picture books. The books are displayed through out the halls nearest to the library and inside the library. Miss Julie runs the library in a special way and takes pride in our library. There is a bar code on every book in the library, and in fact there is over 9352 in the library, and the collection is still growing. on every book  she scans the bar code on the back of the book, then scans the title and the bar code on the title is the same as every book by that author. for example, David Walliams, who is a famous book author, and comedian. Miss Julie and the Library team use the 'Micro Librarian System' to list of all the people who have borrowed a book, and what date the book was taken out. Using the computer system she can tell how long someone has had a book out for because it shows in red, green and blue. Red meaning its been out for too long. When the school opened up they had no library, which was not good. If you want to join the library, you only have to help around the library, make sure no one is messing around, and do your shifts. There are a lot of topic books for every classes to choose from and record information. If you ask Miss Julie she can get those books for you and other classes and people who would like to read that book. Miss Julie's favourite book is Private Peaceful, by Michael Mupurgo.

Children in Need

 Year 6 Bloggers

This year Children In Need, is all about giving money to the hungry and homeless children, our school children and adults bring in money and the school counts it all together and takes it to a charity place for the hungry children out there in the world. Pudsey  is a Bear that collects the money and cheers children up,
Pudsey has a girlfriend called Blush she helps Pudsey collect the money. On Children in need day, everyone gets to dress up as Pudsey or Blush such as wearing T-shirt with Pudsey or Blush on it, or a spotty T-shirt / jumper, and anything spotty. We get to do some fun activities based on children in needs day.

Pudsey Bear And Blush Comes into our school and collects the money that everyone brings in, they also take pictures with the children and they even come to do activities with all the children. Last year, 2017 we brung in money and took the money to the hall and we place all the coppers on a Pudsey bear picture.
But this year, 2018 two kids got picked to go around with Pudsey Bear and Blush to collect the money, after they collected it all they would go to the Office and give the coppers in so that they can count it altogether, this year we earned £607 the highest we have ever raised.

Creative Practitioners

The Creative Practitioners project is a whole lot of schools who get together and plan events such as we did maths with a year 7,8,9,10,11 teacher and learned about probability. Probability is when something is impossible or certain. or an even chance, unlikely or likely. our first project that we created was in year 5 we had two creative practitioners with us to help us we created a story about a big sea monster. We went down to Pentrahafod, (Pentrahafod is the local comprehensive school) we have a cluster who also have a partnership with pentrahafod and take place in advents to. The whole cluster performed and then we did, We had an artist who is a book illustrator and designed a poster and it is hung on a bulletin board in the school.
